I enjoy viewing my creativity as an object and a muscle seems the most appropriate. I can’t remember if I skimmed this from The Creative Habit or Art & Fear, probably from the former considering the author is a dancer and more concerned with muscles.
Obviously a muscle will atrophy without proper conditioning and care. Without nourishing food, exercise, stretching and daily use it becomes obsolete and immobile . When I view it this way it releases any guilt associated with “indulging” in creative exercises when I’ve got piles of peripheral “responsibilities” vying for my attention(minus my family of course!).
I’m relating to this idea all the more since I’ve had this influenza thing on an off for a month now and my muscles feel weak and useless, while my creativity is bulging and strong.
